Uncured rubber has poor adhesive properties when compared to other substrates, but it does like to stick to itself. This property is known as tack. Rubber that has just been mixed is especially tacky.

Due to the inherently high surface tack of rubber, the surface of films created from rubber, particularly natural rubber, have a tendency to stick together. Unfortunately, because of this characteristic, complications may arise while attempting to store or transport latex materials.

Therefore, protective agents become important in the storage and manufacturing process of rubber products.

Anti-tack agents are applied to the surface of uncured rubber allowing for release or separation after storage. Anti-tack agents are designed to reduce the self-adhesive quality of rubber items. These materials are applied to rubber goods in order to generate a thin protective anti-tack coating on the surface of the product.
